Southeast and south-central Missouri is home to numerous talented athletes who dedicate themselves to excelling in their sports. However, the participation of females in sports is currently at risk due to the Left's radical attack on gender science. The Left's push to allow biological males to compete in female sports is not about equality but rather an attempt to impose their extreme ideology on the rest of America.
A Gallup poll from June 2023 revealed that nearly 70% of Americans believe that transgender athletes should only be allowed to play on teams that align with their birth gender. This indicates that most Americans agree that biological males should not compete in female sports. The Left and the liberal media are using this issue to divide Americans and advance their radical agenda.
In 2022, Lia Thomas, a biological male, became the first transgender athlete to win an NCAA Division I national championship in the women's 500-yard freestyle. This raised concerns about the fairness of allowing biological males to compete against females. A former teammate of Thomas expressed their disappointment, stating that the Democrat party has prioritized "trans rights" over the concerns of women.
The Biden administration further exacerbated the issue by issuing new Title IX regulations in April, expanding the definition of sexual discrimination to include gender identity. These regulations would prevent schools and colleges from banning transgender athletes. This is just one example of the radical actions taken by the Biden administration to impose the Left's agenda on conservatives and rural communities.
Republicans have been fighting back against the Left's radical gender ideology. Efforts have been made in Congress, state legislatures, and the courts to protect female sports. The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023, coauthored by some Republicans, aims to ensure that biological females compete against other biological females in women's sports that receive federal funding. Although the legislation passed in the House, it has yet to be taken up by the Senate.
Missouri is fortunate to have leaders who are committed to combating the Left's assault on female sports. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is challenging the Left's transgender agenda in court. Governor Mike Parson also signed a law, led by Missouri State Senator Holly Rehder, to prevent biological males from participating in sports teams designated for biological females. Rehder emphasized the importance of protecting the progress made by female student athletes since the passage of the federal Title IX Act 50 years ago.
The region has witnessed remarkable performances from female athletes, including state champions like Advance Volleyball and Valle Catholic Softball. Efforts must be made to ensure that female athletes have a fair and level playing field. Whether it is in schools, libraries, the healthcare system, or female sports, the fight against the Left's extreme agenda in rural communities must continue.
