U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has called on President Biden to send in the National Guard to ensure the safety of Jewish students on campuses amidst rising concerns of antisemitic protests across the nation. Senator Hawley's statement comes in response to recent demonstrations at elite universities that he has described as a reflection of "moral rot" within academia.
In a tweet, Senator Hawley emphasized the need for immediate action, stating, "Eisenhower sent the 101st to Little Rock. It’s time for Biden to call out the National Guard at our universities to protect Jewish Americans."
Additionally, the Senate previously approved Senator Hawley's resolution denouncing Hamas and antisemitic student groups on campuses for their support of the October 7 terrorist attack against Israel. The resolution's passage followed initial opposition from Democrats, highlighting the ongoing efforts to address antisemitism and ensure the safety of Jewish individuals on college campuses.
