On June 8, the Israeli military conducted a mission to rescue four hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. "I’m incredibly grateful that these innocent people are safe and back at home with their families, and I pray that the other hostages – including Americans – will also come home soon," stated an unnamed source.

Following the mission, it was revealed that a journalist working for The Palestine Chronicle, part of the tax-exempt People Media Project under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code in the United States, had been holding Israeli hostages in his home. This individual previously served as a spokesman for Hamas-run labor ministry and may have been funded by tax-free dollars from the People Media Project. "He isn’t a reporter. He is a terrorist," claimed the source.

The source further accused the People Media Project of supporting Hamas. "At worst, it’s a full-fledged financier of terrorism in the Middle East." As Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, which oversees tax legislation, he vowed to stop such organizations from receiving special tax benefits.

On June 10, he sent a letter to the IRS demanding revocation of the People Media Project's tax-exempt status due to its potential links to Hamas activities. According to him, evidence suggests that this organization is not operating exclusively for charitable purposes but instead supports Hamas. This letter is part of an ongoing investigation initiated after an October 7 terror attack against Israel into U.S. tax-exempt groups financing terrorism.

The investigation has identified organizations like Students for Justice in Palestine as pushing Hamas propaganda while enjoying U.S. tax-exempt status. This group is linked to American Muslims for Palestine, which has faced legal action for allegedly funneling $12.4 million from Americans to fund Hamas before being shut down by U.S. authorities in the early 2000s.

Earlier this year, bipartisan legislation aimed at revoking tax-exempt status from entities providing material support to terrorist organizations was passed by the House with support from this committee chairman. He emphasized its importance: "This crucial bipartisan legislation is an important step in going after financial networks on which terror organizations rely."

He urged swift Senate approval of this bill: "The American people will not stand for allowing their tax dollars to go toward support of Hamas terrorists and violence against Israelis and people of Jewish faith." He concluded with his commitment: "As Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, I’ll continue fighting tooth and nail to cutoff special tax treatment for organizations that fund terror."
