Every Labor Day, Americans celebrate the hardworking men and women who contribute to the nation's prosperity. These individuals, including factory workers and auto mechanics like my parents, are essential to our society. Their dedication shaped my upbringing and continues to influence the policies I advocate for in Washington.
Supporting Missouri's working-class citizens remains my top priority. In this effort, former President Donald Trump has been a significant ally. His administration focused on healthcare, trade, taxes, and immigration to benefit hardworking Americans often overlooked by Washington Democrats.
During Trump's tenure, the economy experienced significant growth. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act led to historic economic expansion and low unemployment rates. Americans earning less than $100,000 saw an average 16% reduction in their tax bills, while those in the bottom 10% of earners experienced faster wage growth compared to the highest earners. The U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement brought back well-paying jobs and increased wages by addressing unfair trade practices from China. Additionally, deregulation efforts saved American households over $3,000 annually.
Since Republicans gained control of the U.S. House of Representatives eighteen months ago, we have continued to advance Trump's pro-worker agenda. Legislation such as H.R. 6655 aims to improve workforce development programs for Americans without college degrees. The establishment of the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party addresses economic threats posed by China. We also passed the Secure the Border Act to protect American jobs from illegal immigration.
As chairman of Congress’s chief tax-writing committee, I am committed to preventing Washington Democrats from allowing the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts to expire and imposing new taxes on Americans. If these cuts expire, families could face substantial tax increases—up to $1,500 annually for a family of four earning $75,000 and nearly $7,500 for a family of five with two earners making around $100,000. Key tax benefits such as the Child Tax Credit and Death Tax exemption would be significantly reduced.
It is an honor to represent Missouri's 8th Congressional District—home to factory workers, electricians, welders, farmers, and others who work diligently for their families' well-being. I remain dedicated to advocating for policies that prioritize working-class Americans.
