Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith has issued a statement following the confirmation of South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem as the Secretary of Homeland Security. The U.S. Senate confirmed Noem, who is also a former member of the House Ways and Means Committee, marking her as the 8th person to hold this position.
Chairman Smith expressed his support for President Trump's decision to appoint Noem, stating, "President Trump has acted swiftly to begin securing our southern border, and I applaud my colleagues in the United States Senate for their confirmation of Governor Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security so she may begin her work to end the invasion of our country that was facilitated by the previous administration."
Smith further praised Noem's leadership qualities and commitment to Trump's policies: "In addition to being a great friend, Governor Noem is a tough-as-nails fighter for President Trump and the America First agenda."
He concluded with confidence in her ability to lead the Department effectively: "Under Secretary Noem’s leadership, I have no doubt the Department of Homeland Security will once again ensure our borders are secure, our laws are enforced, and our communities are safe."
