Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith expressed support for President Trump's recent executive order concerning trade tariffs. The order directs the administration to explore reciprocal tariffs on imports from countries that impose tariffs or other barriers on U.S. exports.

"President Trump understands that American workers and manufacturers can outcompete those of any other nation, but for far too long they have been held back by a lack of reciprocity because other countries impose much higher tariffs and other barriers than the United States imposes on imports," Smith stated. He emphasized the need to explore all avenues, including reciprocity, to ensure fair treatment of U.S. interests.

Smith highlighted that this initiative aligns with ongoing efforts by the Trump Administration to secure commitments from trading partners, address China's attempts to bypass U.S. tariffs, and review trade policies to counter unfair practices. According to Smith, these actions aim to bring additional revenues into the country and restore American leadership in global markets.

He reiterated that President Trump and congressional Republicans are committed to advocating for working families, farmers, and small businesses both domestically and internationally.
