Rep. Jason Smith, who has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri's 8th district since 2013, shared details of a new legislative proposal through his Twitter account on July 3, 2025. Known as "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill," this proposal targets various financial and economic aspects within the United States.

On July 3, Rep. Smith posted that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill taxes nonprofit organizations that pay their executives exorbitant salaries." This move is likely aimed at curbing excessive compensation practices within nonprofit sectors.

In another tweet on the same day, he stated that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill eliminates $500 billion in Green New Deal subsidies, ending U.S. dependence on Chinese energy supply chains." This suggests an effort to reallocate funds away from environmental initiatives tied to foreign dependencies.

Further elaborating on the bill's provisions, Rep. Smith tweeted that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill increases taxes on the wealthiest university endowments." This aspect of the bill appears focused on generating additional revenue from large educational institutions.

Rep. Jason Smith was born in St Louis and currently resides in Salem. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri and later earned a Juris Doctor degree from Oklahoma City University.
