Rep. Jason Smith, who has represented Missouri’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2013, recently posted a series of statements on social media regarding “The One, Big Beautiful Bill.” Smith’s comments centered on the bill’s alignment with former President Trump’s agenda and its legislative journey.

On July 11, 2025, Smith stated that "The One, Big Beautiful Bill delivers President Trump’s promise to make America great again." This message referenced the bill as fulfilling campaign commitments associated with former President Trump.

In a subsequent post on July 11, 2025, Smith criticized Democratic opposition to the legislation: "The Democrats obstructed The One, Big, Beautiful Bill every attempt they could. They fought AGAINST a tax cut for working class Americans and to usher in the largest tax hike in American history." Here, Smith attributed resistance to the bill to Democratic lawmakers and framed it as a conflict over tax policy.

Later that same day, Smith described the legislation as significant by stating: "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill is truly HISTORIC."

Jason Smith was born in St Louis in 1980 and currently resides in Salem. He holds degrees from the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD). Before joining Congress in 2013 following Jo Ann Emerson's tenure, he served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013.
