Rep. Jason Smith, who has represented Missouri’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress since 2013 and previously served in the Missouri House of Representatives, recently shared a series of posts on social media regarding The One, Big, Beautiful Bill. Smith, born in St. Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem, highlighted several provisions of the bill that he says support business growth and rural investment.
On July 10, 2025, Smith stated that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill preserves key pro-growth provisions from the 2017 Trump tax cuts. This gives businesses the certainty needed to make long-term plans."
Later that day, he emphasized changes affecting tax reporting for gig workers and entrepreneurs. According to his post on July 10, 2025: "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill repeals ARPA's 1099-K rule—protecting gig workers and entrepreneurs from burdensome IRS reporting."
In a subsequent post on July 10, 2025, Smith addressed the needs of rural communities. He wrote: "Rural America is a great place to build a new business but has too-often been overlooked and misunderstood by Washington. This is why The One, Big, Beautiful Bill provided crucial updates to the Opportunity Zone program to ensure more investment is driven into these communities."
Smith graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in 2001 and earned a JD from Oklahoma City University in 2004.
