Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, has used his social media platform to comment on recent developments in U.S. foreign policy and domestic politics.

On October 13, 2025, Smith highlighted former President Donald Trump’s involvement in a Middle East peace agreement, stating, "Today represents a historic day in the Middle East as President Trump traveled there to recognize a peace deal to end the Israel-Hamas War and witness the freeing of hostages from Hamas captivity. President Trump has done what many believed to be impossible: negotiated peace in".

Two days later, on October 15, 2025, Smith commented on the ongoing government shutdown, referencing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer: "Big night for Chuck Schumer, who’s eagerly waiting to learn if he’s allowed to reopen the government."

On October 16, 2025, Smith further addressed the government shutdown, attributing responsibility to the Democratic Party: "This shutdown isn’t about policy – it’s about Democrats choosing to hurt the American people just to appease their radical base."

Smith, who was born in St. Louis in 1980 and currently resides in Salem, Missouri, has a background in law and agriculture. He earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri in 2001 and a Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University in 2004. Before joining Congress, Smith served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013.
