Cape Girardeau County ranked 35th among counties in Missouri by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The median income of Cape Girardeau County residents was $25,863 per year, adjusted for inflation. It had 29,366 households with a population of 78,324.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Platte County with $38,927 per year after adjusting for inflation – $13,064 more than Cape Girardeau County. It had 38,613 households with a population of 98,824.

The county with the lowest median resident income in the state was Mississippi County with $15,266 per year after adjusting for inflation – $10,597 less than Cape Girardeau County. It had 5,040 households with a population of 13,748.
