On September 15, a tragedy was averted when a Secret Service agent intervened against an armed individual attempting to assassinate former President Donald Trump. The incident marks the second assassination attempt on Trump within 65 days, raising concerns nationwide.

The event underscores the consequences of inflammatory rhetoric. Last year, a House Democrat described Trump as so "dangerous" to democracy that he "has to be eliminated." Days before the first assassination attempt, President Joe Biden remarked it was "time to put Trump in the bullseye."

Vice President Kamala Harris recently labeled Trump as the biggest threat since the Civil War. Following the failed attempt, Hillary Clinton stated that Trump posed a "danger to our country and the world." White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre also referred to Trump as a “threat” to democracy.

In April, on social media platform X, the individual behind the second attempt echoed similar rhetoric by stating, “DEMOCRACY is on the ballot and we cannot lose.”

There are calls for increased security measures for Trump. Requests from Trump's team for additional screening measures and agents have reportedly been denied due to staffing shortages and hiring limits. Ensuring adequate resources for Secret Service is deemed crucial.

Following this latest incident, Biden emphasized his administration's commitment to providing necessary resources for Trump's safety. However, there has been criticism over perceived lack of cooperation with Congress's investigation into these incidents.

Members of Congress from both parties have expressed frustration over what they describe as stonewalling by the administration regarding information on these attempts and potential Secret Service failures. A top Senate Democrat mentioned becoming "angry" over insufficient transparency.

There are appeals for leaders on all sides to denounce dangerous rhetoric and for comprehensive cooperation with ongoing investigations. This period is seen as troubling in American history, prompting calls for prayers for Trump's safety and national unity.
