Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith issued a statement on the anniversary of the October 7th attack on Israel. The attack, carried out by Hamas terrorists, resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people and left thousands injured.
Chairman Smith remarked, “In the year since Hamas terrorists launched an unprecedented assault on the State of Israel, the senseless aggression against the Jewish people has not ceased. The United States will continue to stand firmly behind our greatest ally in the Middle East as they work to defend themselves from not only Hamas, but Iran and its insidious proxies who seek to destroy them."
He further emphasized his commitment to protecting Jewish Americans from antisemitic acts within the United States. "While Israel fights to defend itself abroad, I will continue to be unwavering in my commitment to protect Jewish Americans from antisemitic intimidation, harassment, and violence here at home," he stated.
Reflecting on those lost during the attack, Smith urged Americans to renew their support for Israel and combat antisemitism. "As we remember those who lost their lives in the brutal attack of October 7, I pray all Americans will honor their memory by renewing our commitment to the State of Israel and eradicating antisemitism in all forms. Together, we must confront these shared enemies and ensure that Israel—and the Jewish people—never stand alone,” he concluded.
