The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) is under pressure to revoke the tax-exempt status of the Alliance for Global Justice. This demand comes from Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith, who cited the organization's financial support for Samidoun, a group recently labeled as a "sham charity" by the U.S. Department of the Treasury due to its terrorist links.

Chairman Smith emphasized in his letter to the IRS that "this case is not complicated," highlighting concerns over why the IRS has not acted on previous requests to end the Alliance's tax benefits. He pointed out that organizations involved in substantial activities not aligned with their exempt purposes risk losing their tax-exempt status. Additionally, conducting illegal activities contradicts charitable and social welfare standards.

Smith stressed that "given Samidoun’s designation by the Treasury as a terrorist organization, coupled with the fact that the Alliance fiscally sponsors and provides support for Samidoun, the IRS must revoke the Alliance’s tax-exempt status immediately."

This call to action was addressed to IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel amid an ongoing investigation by the Ways and Means Committee into nonprofit organizations. Earlier this year, Smith demanded similar actions against several groups after uncovering their connections to foreign terrorist organizations and illegal activities.
