U.S. Representative Jason Smith, along with members of the Missouri congressional delegation, has urged the Biden administration to expedite approval for a major disaster declaration requested by Missouri Governor Mike Parson. This request follows severe weather in November that resulted in extensive damage and fatalities across southeast and south-central Missouri.
The disaster declaration seeks aid for 14 counties, including 11 within Missouri's 8th Congressional District. Representative Smith emphasized the urgency of federal assistance to support recovery efforts.
“Last month’s deadly, severe weather caused significant damage and hardship across southeast and south-central Missouri,” said Smith. “Homes and businesses were destroyed, roads and bridges were swept away, and multiple lives were tragically lost. I urge the Biden administration to act swiftly to issue a disaster declaration, a necessary step in order for Missouri to access critically important resources. I’ll keep fighting to help the families, farmers, and small businesses that were impacted by the major storms and deadly flooding.”
Smith continues his advocacy for those affected by the devastating storms as they await a response from federal authorities.
