U.S. Representative Jason Smith, along with other members of the Missouri congressional delegation, has urged the Biden administration to swiftly approve Missouri Governor Mike Parson's request for a major disaster declaration. This follows severe weather events last month that led to the destruction of homes, businesses, and infrastructure in southeast and south-central Missouri. The calamity also resulted in multiple fatalities.

The requested disaster declaration covers 14 counties, with 11 situated within Missouri's 8th Congressional District. "Last month’s deadly, severe weather caused significant damage and hardship across southeast and south-central Missouri," said Smith. He highlighted the extensive destruction of homes and businesses as well as roads and bridges being swept away by the floods.

Smith stressed the urgency of the situation: "I urge the Biden administration to act swiftly to issue a disaster declaration, a necessary step in order for Missouri to access critically important resources." He affirmed his commitment to assisting families, farmers, and small businesses affected by these storms.
