Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith has been reappointed by the Republican Steering Committee to continue his role for the 119th Congress. In a statement, Smith expressed his commitment to addressing economic challenges faced by American families and businesses.
"We have before us a tremendous opportunity and a responsibility to deliver for working families and small businesses across America who are crying out for relief after four years of rising prices and crippling economic uncertainty," Smith stated. He emphasized the importance of building on the 2017 Trump tax cuts, ensuring taxes do not increase for American workers, families, farmers, and small businesses at the end of next year.
Smith highlighted the committee's focus on advancing policies that aim to grow the economy, increase wages, create jobs, lower costs of goods and services, expand healthcare access in rural areas, and combat unfair trade practices from foreign competitors like China. "We will use all the tools of trade to help get fairer treatment for American workers and our farmers," he added.
Over the past two years, Smith noted that the Ways and Means Committee has been actively engaging with American workers through hearings and roundtables across 20 states. These efforts have generated solutions intended to form an economic growth package in the upcoming year. "Republicans are ready to hit the ground running," said Smith. He expressed gratitude for his colleagues' trust in him as he continues leading efforts at the Ways and Means Committee.
