Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) is set to offer its Babysitting and Home Alone classes in June. The Babysitting class is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the hospital's Education Conference Room. This one-day program targets youth who have completed at least the sixth grade and covers infant care, first aid, and emergency handling. The registration fee of $20 includes lunch and materials, with a participant limit of 15-20 individuals. A second day may be added if demand requires.

“This course prepares novice babysitters for a safe and positive babysitting experience,” said Poston. “Participants will learn some universal skills and techniques that every babysitter should have.”

Instructor Carol Emmett will lead both classes.

The Home Alone class will take place on Thursday, June 26, with sessions from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., also in the Education Conference Room. It focuses on safety, first aid, self-care, and preparing children for being home alone. Snacks are included with the $10 registration fee. Each session can accommodate up to 25 participants.

“Staying home alone is often the first way children are able to show their independence,” said Tina Poston, SGCMH Director of Marketing and Community Relations. “But it can be hard for parents to know when their children no longer need constant supervision. This class will help provide that confidence for parents and children.”

Registration for the Babysitting class can be completed online at https://form.jotform.com/251116513769155, while registration for the Home Alone class is available at https://form.jotform.com/251115514991152.
