Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri's 8th district since 2013, recently shared updates on the progress of legislative efforts via social media. His series of tweets highlighted the work done by the Ways and Means Committee and introduced a new legislative proposal aimed at continuing the economic policies initiated under former President Trump.

On July 3, 2025, Rep. Smith tweeted about the extensive efforts made by the Ways and Means Committee to engage with Americans nationwide in order to enhance the outcomes of the 2017 Trump tax cuts. He stated, "The Ways and Means Committee has been working for this moment for years." The tweet emphasized that these tax cuts had positively impacted workers, families, farmers, and small businesses.

Shortly after his initial post, Rep. Smith introduced "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill," which he described as prioritizing American families. In his words: "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill champions life and puts American families first."

Further elaborating on this legislative proposal later that morning, Rep. Smith affirmed its pro-family stance by maintaining lower tax rates from previous reforms. He noted that it would prevent a potential increase in taxes for American families amounting to $1,700: "It cements the lower tax rates and brackets established in the 2017 Trump tax cuts and stops a $1,700 tax increase on American families."

Jason Smith was born in St Louis in 1980 and currently resides in Salem. Before joining Congress in 2013 following Jo Ann Emerson's tenure, he served in Missouri's House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013.
