Rep. Jason Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district, has recently shared his views on "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill" through a series of tweets. Smith, who succeeded Jo Ann Emerson in 2013 and previously served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013, provides insight into various aspects of the bill and its implications for economic growth and tax policies.

On July 8, 2025, Smith criticized the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) for its historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies. He noted that "The CBO scored The One, Big, Beautiful Bill with a growth rate a whole percentage point lower than the average growth rate for the past 50 years." According to Smith, this discrepancy impacts billions in projected revenue.

Later that day, Smith highlighted the benefits of the 199A small business deduction. He stated that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill made this deduction permanent," providing stability for businesses like those in his district. He emphasized that this permanence allows small businesses to expand and hire with greater certainty.

In another tweet on July 8th, Smith addressed how nearly 700,000 families in Missouri benefit from the Child Tax Credit. He explained that "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill not only cements the Child Tax Credit but also enhances it" to assist families recovering from economic challenges attributed to "Bidenflation."

Smith was born in St Louis in 1980 and resides in Salem. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a BS in 2001 and earned a JD from Oklahoma City University in 2004.
