Allstate has agreed to pay in full a claim made by Natalia Migal, who testified at a U.S. Senate Disaster Management subcommittee hearing chaired by Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.). The announcement comes after Migal shared her experience of initially being offered $46,000 for damages to her Georgia home caused by a 70-foot oak tree during Hurricane Helene last September. Following cross examination of an Allstate executive at the hearing, Migal confirmed that the company will now pay $497,000 plus attorney’s fees to cover the cost of rebuilding her home.
“This is a victory. Allstate has finally agreed to pay Ms. Migal’s claim in full. But there are many others like her across the country who the insurance industry continues to scam. I will continue to investigate Allstate and other insurance companies to ensure they do right by their policyholders,” said Senator Hawley.
Earlier this year, Senator Hawley began an investigation into how insurance companies handle claims following natural disasters. President Donald Trump brought attention to these practices during his January visit to North Carolina, where he met with victims of Hurricane Helene.
Senator Hawley has also contacted top executives at several major insurance companies, including State Farm, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Allstate, and American Family Insurance. He called on them to honor their contracts as policyholders attempt to recover from recent storms in Eastern Missouri.
