The annual Spirit of Pink event, focused on breast cancer awareness, is scheduled for Thursday, October 9 at 5:30 pm at the Orris. This year’s theme is "Harvesting Hope," and the event aims to encourage women to prioritize their health and raise awareness about breast cancer.

Dr. Angela Ware, breast surgeon and director of the Metis Breast Center at Bloomsdale Medical Centre, commented on the significance of the gathering. “Women will enjoy coming together to show strength, courage and grow in hope for all those who have been touched by breast cancer,” said Dr. Ware.

Katie Hogenmiller, RN, will be a guest speaker at the event. Hogenmiller carries the BRCA gene and has personal experience with decisions related to breast cancer risk. “It was a life changing experience for me and my family but I want others to know there is hope,” said Katie.

Organizers say that this year’s program will include dinner with mocktails, photos, music, as well as educational opportunities related to genetic testing and prevention. Cancer survivors attending will be honored during the evening.

“This will be an exciting moment for us,” said Dr. Ware. “Women can dress in pink to show how they are committed to their health, it will be lots of fun.”

Angela Ware, DO, along with Mary Crecelius, WHNP, APNG-BC, DipACLM are set to welcome attendees at the start of the evening. Information on genetic testing for breast cancer and treatment options will be available as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities.

All women are invited; tickets cost $15 per person with limited seating available. Cancer survivors may attend free of charge but must register by calling 573-883-7791.

The Metis Breast Center offers early detection services such as 3D mammography and ultrasound alongside treatment options for benign and malignant breast disease including minimally invasive biopsies and surgery. Genetic testing is also available for various cancers.

Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital operates as a nonprofit community hospital serving local residents with advanced technology and medical care tailored to individual needs.
