Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, recently posted several statements on his social media account addressing issues ranging from Medicaid policy to crime and an incident at Utah Valley University.

On September 9, 2025, Smith criticized Democratic lawmakers for their approach to Medicaid changes, stating: "The Democrats are doing what they do best: misleading the American people. When it comes to recently enacted changes to Medicaid, here are the facts - according to the 'non-partisan' CBO, which the Democrats love to cite: 48% of the people who will lose Medicaid coverage are https://t.co/3qKcqSoWVj".

The following day, September 10, Smith questioned Democratic priorities regarding public safety and immigration. He wrote: "Why are Democrat politicians spending their time pandering to illegal immigrants and violent criminals when the majority of Americans see crime as a major problem in our cities?".

Later that same day, Smith commented on news involving Utah Valley University and conservative activist Charlie Kirk. His post read: "Horrific news out of Utah Valley University. Everyone please pray for Charlie Kirk."

Smith has served in Congress since succeeding Jo Ann Emerson in 2013 after previously serving in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem, Smith holds degrees from both the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD).
