Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, used his social media platform on September 30, 2025, to criticize Democratic lawmakers over government funding negotiations and the threat of a shutdown.

In a post at 12:04 UTC, Smith wrote, "Even as recent as last Congress, Democrats acknowledged and warned of the consequences of shutting the government down. Now that President Trump is in the White House, they have changed their tune. Democrats are willing to shut down the government, leaving our troops without".

Later that day at 15:14 UTC, he continued his criticism by referencing recent legislative actions: "Two weeks ago, House Republicans passed a straightforward bill to keep the government open.
