U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has urged the Department of Justice to investigate third-party funding behind violent antisemitic protests on college campuses. In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, Hawley highlighted the financial support received by key groups like Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow from George Soros’s Tides Foundation. He expressed concern over illegal activities perpetrated by these groups while enjoying tax-exempt status, putting Jewish students and faculty at risk.
Hawley stated, "Earlier this week, Politico detailed the vast amounts of dark money subsidizing this mayhem." He emphasized the need for an investigation into the coordinated and funded anti-Israel advocacy network responsible for the unrest on campuses.
The senator called for transparency on the issue by posing questions to the Department of Justice, including the number of anti-Israel protests funded by third-party groups and the actions planned to enforce IRS Revenue Ruling 75-384 against organizations supporting campus lawbreaking.
