U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has secured new protections for airline passengers in the Senate’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization bill. Senator Hawley filed an amendment to the legislation guaranteeing passengers the right to an automatic refund when flights are canceled. Senate negotiators have confirmed the adoption of these protections. Senator Hawley stated, "Victory for airline passengers! You shouldn’t have to beg for a refund when the airline cartels cancel your flight." He filed the amendment after the original text of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 did not allow immediate refunds for consumers. With these protections, consumers will receive refunds without complicated procedures.
