U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) announced that several Missouri-focused provisions were included in the Senate’s National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2026 (FY2026 NDAA), which passed on October 9, 2025.

“Tonight the Senate has adopted my legislation protecting Ft. Leonard Wood’s vital hospital from being downgraded or closed. This is a huge win for Missouri. The defense bill passed tonight also enacts President Trump’s national security priorities, gives our troops a 3.8% pay raise, and makes needed defense investments across Missouri,” said Senator Hawley.

The FY2026 NDAA includes language that prevents the downgrading or closure of the hospital at Ft. Leonard Wood, which is considered essential to the local community. The bill also reauthorizes the STOIC Act, originally sponsored by Hawley, which provides significant funding to support mental health and family services for law enforcement.

Additional investments highlighted in the bill include $33.6 million allocated for construction projects at Whiteman Air Force Base and $6.5 million designated for projects at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. The legislation also contains measures to prevent the divestment of A-10 aircraft used by Whiteman Air Force Base’s 442nd Fighter Wing and National Guard C-130 aircraft operated by Missouri Air National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing.
