When Republicans took control of the House of Representatives in January 2023, they committed to advancing policies aimed at stabilizing the country. The party has since focused on curbing spending, implementing tax reforms, and addressing border security.
Republicans have claimed responsibility for halting what they describe as excessive spending by Democrats during the first two years of the Biden-Harris administration. They argue that this spending led to a $10 trillion increase and a significant rise in prices. "Fortunately, thanks to House Republicans, we were able to put an end to that out-of-control spending," one Republican stated. They highlight the Fiscal Responsibility Act as a major achievement, noting it resulted in the largest spending cut in U.S. history.
Efforts have also been made to provide economic relief through legislation such as the Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act. This bill aims to expand access to child tax credits and restore full deductibility for research and development (R&D). It is projected to support over $70 billion in new investment and create millions of jobs across various sectors.
In addition, Republicans have opposed certain progressive policies, coauthoring acts like the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023. This legislation mandates that biological females compete against other biological females in federally funded sports programs.
Border security remains a priority with the passage of the Secure the Border Act. The act seeks to address issues within the asylum system, increase Border Patrol staffing, end catch-and-release practices, and reinstate previous policies such as Remain in Mexico.
The Republican majority expresses gratitude for public support which they believe prevents Congress from endorsing what they term as radical agendas from the Biden-Harris administration. "I’m incredibly grateful for the faith the American people placed in a Republican House majority two years ago," said one representative.
