Ways and Means Committee announces new subcommittee chairs for 119th Congress

After the Ways and Means Committee's Organizational Meeting for the 119th Congress, Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08) announced the subcommittee chair assignments. Smith expressed confidence in the committee's leadership, emphasizing their expertise and commitment to advancing President Trump's economic agenda.

Chairman Mike Kelly (PA-16) will lead the Tax Subcommittee. Kelly stated, "2025 will be the Super Bowl of Tax as we work to extend the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act." He aims to collaborate with President Trump and other leaders to achieve this goal.

David Schweikert (AZ-01), heading the Oversight Subcommittee, emphasized his dedication to overseeing IRS operations and addressing fraudulent practices in healthcare. "Under my leadership, the Oversight Subcommittee will work with Medicare recipients," he noted.

Ron Estes (KS-04) chairs the Social Security Subcommittee. He highlighted challenges faced by Americans with Social Security services and pledged oversight improvements: "I look forward to providing greater oversight of the SSA."

Vern Buchanan (FL-16), leading the Health Subcommittee, is focused on promoting preventive care investments. Buchanan remarked on his business experience influencing his approach: "It’s critical that we focus on returning health care to a patient-oriented system."

Adrian Smith (NE-03) chairs the Trade Subcommittee. He criticized current trade policies and outlined an aggressive agenda for American growth: "Our relationships with trade partners hold immense untapped value."

Darin LaHood (IL-16), as head of Work and Welfare, aims to support vulnerable populations while protecting taxpayer dollars. LaHood said he looks forward to building on bipartisan efforts from previous sessions.

Smith concluded by expressing gratitude for these leaders' roles in supporting families, seniors, and economic growth while holding Washington accountable.
