Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith has issued a statement following the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States. Smith emphasized a shift in economic policy, expressing optimism about the future under President Trump's leadership.
"Today America officially turns the page on four years of failed Democrat economic policies, and we can now begin a new chapter, with a renewed sense of hope for the future," said Smith. He noted that with Trump's return to office, there would be an emphasis on "proven solutions to lift up working families and empower small businesses."
Smith highlighted the committee's readiness to support President Trump's agenda. He mentioned that over the past two years, they have engaged with communities across the country to understand challenges like high prices and interest rates affecting economic growth.
He expressed urgency in delivering tax relief, stating, "Time is of the essence. With President Trump in the Oval Office, the top priority for Congress is to put an America First tax relief bill on his desk." According to Smith, such measures are crucial for enabling investments by small businesses and manufacturers and ensuring family businesses remain viable.
Smith also outlined other areas where collaboration with President Trump would be essential. These include affordable healthcare, retirement security for seniors, combating unfair trade practices from countries like China, supporting vulnerable families through work opportunities, and addressing bureaucratic challenges in Washington.
"I look forward to working with the Trump Administration to deliver for the American people on all of these fronts and to do so as soon as possible," he concluded.
