Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith expressed his support for Tulsi Gabbard following her confirmation by the U.S. Senate as the Director of National Intelligence. Gabbard, an Army Reserve veteran and former U.S. House Representative, will now lead the nation's intelligence community.

Chairman Smith remarked on Gabbard's dedication to public service: “I congratulate my good friend and former colleague, Tulsi Gabbard, on her confirmation as the next U.S. Director of National Intelligence." He highlighted her extensive service record in both military deployments in the Middle East and Africa and various elected offices at local, state, and federal levels.

Smith emphasized Gabbard's qualities that he believes make her suitable for this role: "Tulsi exemplifies honor and a love of country to which all public servants should aspire." He also noted that she would offer a new outlook to the Intelligence Community with a focus on national security: "As our next Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi will bring a fresh perspective...that prioritizes the safety and wellbeing of the American people."

Additionally, Smith mentioned that Gabbard's leadership aligns with President Trump's goals for national security: "supports President Trump’s mission of keeping the homeland safe.”
