Rep. Jason Smith, currently serving in the U.S. Congress and representing Missouri’s 8th district, shared insights on a new tax legislation called "The One, Big, Beautiful Bill" through a series of tweets. Smith has been part of the U.S. Congress since 2013, succeeding Jo Ann Emerson.

On June 17, 2025, Rep. Smith tweeted about the significant tax relief provided by The One, Big, Beautiful Bill for American households earning between $15,000 and $30,000 annually. According to him, these households will experience a 23% reduction in taxes—the largest percentage cut among all income brackets.

Later that day on June 17, he addressed criticisms from Democrats regarding the bill. He claimed that their arguments were recycled from those made against the 2017 Trump tax cuts and emphasized that the current bill is aimed at benefiting working-class Americans by extending relief to approximately 54.7 million individuals.

On June 18, Smith asserted that the House-passed bill enhances the progressiveness of the tax code by increasing the tax share paid by wealthy individuals. He expressed disappointment over Democrats' opposition to this aspect despite their previous calls for higher contributions from affluent taxpayers.

Smith was born in St Louis in 1980 and resides in Salem. His educational background includes a BS from the University of Missouri and a JD from Oklahoma City University.
