Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, recently shared his views on tax legislation and American independence through a series of tweets. Born in St Louis, Missouri, in 1980, Smith has been an active political figure with a background in law and business.

On July 3, 2025, Smith expressed support for The One, Big, Beautiful Bill by highlighting its impact on workers' income. He stated that "By eliminating taxes on tips, The One, Big, Beautiful Bill directly boosts the income of millions of workers in the hospitality and service industries."

In another tweet posted later that day on July 3rd, he emphasized the bill's significance for low-income workers by noting that "The tax-free status of up to $25,000 in tips under The One, Big, Beautiful Bill is a game-changer for many low-income, service-oriented workers."

On July 4th, Smith celebrated American independence by reflecting on the country's history. He tweeted: "Today we celebrate American independence! Nearly 250 years ago Americans broke free from tyranny and founded the greatest nation on Earth. Happy 4th of July!"

Jason Smith graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2001 and obtained his Juris Doctor from Oklahoma City University in 2004. Before serving in Congress, he was part of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013.
