Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, used his social media platform on July 16, 2025, to address tax policy related to digital assets and promote upcoming television appearances focused on President Trump’s agenda.

In a tweet posted at 16:27 UTC, Smith commented on the challenges facing digital asset taxation in the United States. He wrote, “The current tax treatment of digital assets is complex; it's burdensome; and it's costly." He continued by referencing a committee hearing held that day: "During today’s Committee hearing on digital asset policy, I heard how the United States needs to act to ensure we are the crypto capital of the world. Later that afternoon, Smith announced two scheduled television interviews via Twitter. At 16:45 UTC he posted, " TUNE IN: Shortly, I'll be joining @Bloomberg to discuss how Congress is working to deliver President Trump's agenda." This was followed at 17:25 UTC with another post stating, " TUNE IN: Shortly, I'll be joining @FoxNews to discuss President Trump's historic defense of American farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses."

Smith has been active in federal politics for over a decade after replacing Jo Ann Emerson in Congress in 2013. Before his tenure in Washington D.C., he served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 until his congressional appointment. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem, Smith holds degrees from both the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD).
