Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, recently posted several messages on his social media account highlighting actions by President Trump and expressing concerns about U.S. reliance on foreign nations for essential goods.
On July 16, 2025, Smith stated, "We shouldn’t have to rely on adversarial nations, like China, for energy, food, or pharmaceuticals. President Trump has been taking swift action to ensure we can produce these things here at home or in partnership with our allies."
Later the same day, he shared another post discussing federal spending and trade policy: "ICYMI: This morning, I joined @NEWSMAX to discuss President Trump's cuts to wasteful spending and his historic work to demand fair treatment for American producers in global markets. Watch below"
On July 17, 2025, Smith referenced efforts by the Trump administration to combat fraud within the federal government: "President Trump promised to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in the Federal government, and he's delivering. Just recently, his Administration arrested and charged over 300 individuals involved in a health care fraud scheme that would’ve cost taxpayers up to nearly $15 BILLION."
Smith has represented Missouri's 8th district in Congress since succeeding Jo Ann Emerson in 2013. Before his time in Congress, he served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem at age 42, Smith holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri (2001) and a JD from Oklahoma City University (2004).
