U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has introduced an amendment to the rescissions package currently under consideration in the Senate. The amendment aims to prevent the Department of Energy from using federal loan guarantees to support the Grain Belt Express, a project associated with the Green New Deal that faces strong opposition from Missouri farmers and ranchers.

Senator Hawley stated, "The Department of Energy should not be using taxpayer dollars to fund green scams at the expense of Missouri’s farmers and ranchers. The Biden Administration shoved the $4.9 billion federal loan guarantee through at the eleventh hour because they knew it was illegal and immoral. It’s time to defund the Grain Belt Express once and for all."

Hawley has been actively working for years to halt funding for the Grain Belt Express in order to protect landowners in Missouri. Recently, he secured a commitment from Energy Secretary Chris Wright to withdraw support for the project's loan guarantees.
