Rep. Jason Smith highlights tax cuts and rural healthcare growth in July updates

Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, posted several updates on July 23, 2025, addressing tax policy, oversight of organ procurement organizations, and the expansion of Medicare Advantage in rural areas.

In his first post at 15:08 UTC, Smith challenged assertions from Democratic lawmakers regarding recent tax legislation. He stated: "Contrary to what Democrats continually parrot, The One, Big, Beautiful Bill delivers the largest tax cut to the working class. Americans making between $15,000 and $30,000 annually will see the largest tax cut of ANY income group."

Later that day at 15:33 UTC, Smith referenced an ongoing inquiry by the House Ways and Means Committee into organ procurement organizations (OPOs). He wrote: ".@WaysandMeansGOP is continuing our investigation into tax-exempt Organ Procurement Organizations to ensure they are operating within their stated tax-exempt purpose. These organizations serve a vital public good, but like any beneficiary of tax-exempt status or recipient of".

At 18:19 UTC on July 23rd, Smith addressed healthcare developments in rural America: "The growth of Medicare Advantage in rural communities has skyrocketed over the past few years. This trend underscores the need to ensure this program appropriately utilizes innovation and flexibilities so we can enhance access to care and deliver better outcomes for rural".

Smith has represented Missouri’s 8th District in Congress since replacing Jo Ann Emerson in 2013. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem, Smith holds degrees from the University of Missouri and Oklahoma City University.
