Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, used his social media platform to highlight Republican-led tax policies and criticize Democratic economic measures in a series of posts on July 25 and 26, 2025.
In a post published on July 25, Smith drew distinctions between the two major parties’ approaches to tax cuts: "When the Democrats were in power, they gave tax cuts to the wealthy and well-connected for electric vehicles. Republicans gave tax cuts to electricians. The One, Big, Beautiful Bill supplied Americans with the most pro-worker, pro-growth, and pro-family tax cut in American".
Later that same day, Smith continued his critique of Democratic fiscal policy by referencing recent claims about taxation: "While Democrats continually make false claims to justify why they voted for the largest tax hike in American history, the facts speak for themselves. Smith has served as Missouri’s representative since replacing Jo Ann Emerson in Congress over a decade ago and previously held office in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 until his move to Congress in 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem at age 42, he holds degrees from both the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD).
