U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has introduced the American Worker Rebate Act, a bill aimed at sending rebate checks to working Americans. The proposal follows an increase in federal revenue from tariffs enacted during the Trump administration.

“Americans deserve a tax rebate after four years of Biden policies that have devastated families’ savings and livelihoods. Like President Trump proposed, my legislation would allow hard-working Americans to benefit from the wealth that Trump’s tariffs are returning to this country,” Senator Hawley said.

The announcement comes after former President Donald Trump expressed support for using tariff revenue to provide financial relief to Americans, citing record-breaking collections from tariffs.

Recent data shows that monthly U.S. tariff revenue nearly reached $30 billion in June. Projections indicate that total tariff revenue could exceed $150 billion in 2025.

The American Worker Rebate Act would provide a one-time rebate check this year to American workers and families, modeled on the direct payments issued by Congress in 2020. Each adult and dependent child would receive at least $600, amounting to $2,400 for a family of four. The bill also allows for larger payments if actual tariff revenues surpass current estimates for 2025.

The full text of the bill is available online.
