U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has joined Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.) and Representatives Donald Norcross (NJ-01), Mike Lawler (NY-17), and Haley Stevens (MI-11) to reintroduce the bipartisan Warehouse Worker Protection Act. The legislation aims to protect close to 2 million warehouse workers across the United States by banning work speed quotas that can contribute to higher injury rates.
“Corporations need to prioritize their workers’ safety and well-being over profits. This bipartisan legislation will hold the warehouse industry accountable while combatting the industry’s worst practices. It’s time to put workers’ safety first and treat them with the dignity they deserve,” said Senator Hawley.
Senator Markey added, “Workers deserve to clock in knowing they will return home safe and healthy at the end of their shift. The Warehouse Worker Protection Act would protect the basic health and dignity of workers from corporate bosses who time and again have prioritized unfettered greed and profit over their own people. I am proudly in solidarity with nearly two million warehouse workers nationwide in the fight to ensure that their rights, safety, and dignity are protected.”
The proposed law would set minimum standards for workplace safety in warehouses, ban speed quotas, and stop policies that prevent employees from unionizing. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters supports this bill.
Earlier in this session of Congress, Senator Hawley introduced a framework focused on improving workplaces and supporting union jobs. He also led a bipartisan effort on another Teamsters-backed bill designed to accelerate contract negotiations for new unions.
