The invasion at the southern border has reached unprecedented levels, with over 300,000 illegal immigrants caught attempting to cross in December alone. This marks a 300% increase compared to the same period in 2020. The total number of illegal border entries has surpassed 10 million under President Joe Biden's administration.
The Left's radical immigration policies are being blamed for the chaos at the border. The decision to undo the effective policies put in place by former President Donald Trump, the refusal to enforce the law, and the blocking of tough immigration legislation by Senate Democrats are all contributing factors. The consequences of these actions are clear: an out-of-control crisis at our border.
In response to these disastrous policies, House Republicans are taking action to hold the administration accountable. The House Homeland Security Committee has advanced articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who is seen as one of the main drivers of the border crisis. The investigation has uncovered evidence of Mayorkas disregarding or abusing multiple laws, court orders, and rulings. Additionally, Mayorkas has breached the trust of Congress and the American people, including lying under oath about the security of the border. It is time to remove him from his position for failing to protect the homeland.
The open borders created by the Biden administration have also allowed for the exploitation of our national security by terror groups. Since Biden took office, at least 300 suspected terrorists have attempted to enter the U.S. Shockingly, a known terrorist was caught and released into the country, where he was able to roam freely for nearly a year. Recognizing this threat, the House passed legislation that would ban members of Hamas and other terror groups involved in attacks against Israel from entering the U.S. It is concerning that some representatives, including Cori Bush from Missouri, voted against this bill.
While there have been discussions and efforts to pass immigration legislation, House Republicans are clear that any bill must address the root cause of the crisis: the Left's open-border agenda. It is an election year, and the Biden administration and Washington Democrats are attempting to portray border security as a priority. However, actions speak louder than words. There are immediate actions that could be taken to bring the border crisis under control. The Democrat-controlled Senate could pass the Republicans' Secure the Border Act, which would be a significant step towards securing the border. President Biden, with a simple stroke of a pen, could reinstate nearly 100 effective border policies that were discarded in the first 100 days of his administration. These policies include halting the construction of the border wall, reinstating catch-and-release, and ending the "Remain-in Mexico" program.
The American people prioritize stopping the invasion at the southern border above all else. As former President Trump aptly stated, "A nation without borders is not a nation." House Republicans are committed to fighting for a secure border, reminiscent of the time when Trump was in office. The accountability for the border crisis lies with the Biden administration and their detrimental policies that have allowed the situation to spiral out of control.
