Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, has used his social media platform to comment on recent developments in trade policy and legislative activity.
On July 28, 2025, Smith praised the Trump administration’s approach to global trade, stating: "Since Day 1, President Trump has embarked on a bold mission to reset America’s global trade partnerships to better serve American farmers, manufacturers, and workers. Yesterday’s announcement of a trade deal with the European Union is a HUGE win for American producers, as this".
Later that day, Smith addressed domestic legislative efforts in another post: "The policies in The One, Big, Beautiful Bill benefit working class Americans, and that’s why Democrats are pulling out every excuse in the book because they cannot really justify why they voted against them. This past week, the Ways and Means Committee traveled outside".
On July 29, 2025, Smith criticized an unspecified tax collection initiative by writing: "Congress never authorized this massive tax collection program. Good riddance. ".
Smith has served as Missouri's representative in Congress since replacing Jo Ann Emerson in 2013. Prior to his tenure in Washington D.C., he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem, Smith holds degrees from the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD).
