Rep. Jason Smith, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, has recently posted a series of statements on social media discussing federal spending estimates, tax policy changes affecting workers, and agricultural trade issues.

On August 11, 2025, Smith criticized the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), stating: "Reality Check: CBO has a troubled track record of getting its estimates incorrect and, like Democrats, is biased in favor of more federal spending and higher taxes. Don't buy it. They've been wrong before, and they're wrong again on The One Big Beautiful Bill."

The following day, August 12, Smith highlighted conversations with workers in Las Vegas about the impact of recent legislation: "In Las Vegas, I heard from Eric Byington, a paint foreman at YESCO, who frequently works overtime hours.

The One, Big, Beautiful Bill delivered real economic relief with NO TAX ON OVERTIME, which puts more money in the pockets of working class Americans, like Eric, and helps"

On August 13, Smith shared his engagement with Missouri's agricultural community: "I had the opportunity to sit down with the Missouri Soybean Association where I heard from soybean farmers about their concerns that need to be addressed at the federal level.

During President Trump’s first term, we had a $5 billion agricultural trade surplus. In the past 4"

Smith has served as Missouri’s 8th District representative since succeeding Jo Ann Emerson in 2013. Before his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem at age 42, Smith holds degrees from the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD).
