Rep. Jason Smith, who represents Missouri’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing trade policy, legislative priorities, and the passing of a fellow lawmaker.
On August 22, 2025, Smith wrote about former President Donald Trump’s approach to international trade agreements: "President Trump promised to be an ally to American manufacturers and workers. The various trade agreements reached by President Trump have brought win after win for Americans, leveling the playing field in foreign trading markets that have historically discriminated against U.S."
A day later, on August 23, 2025, Smith contrasted Republican actions with those of Democrats regarding economic legislation: "While Democrats used their time in control of Washington to pass the Inflation Reduction Act and funnel billions in taxpayer subsidies to big banks, billion-dollar companies, and China, President Trump and Republicans in Congress did the exact opposite. The One, Big, Beautiful"
On August 25, 2025, Smith expressed condolences following the death of State Representative Ken Waller: "Incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of State Rep. Ken Waller. Ken dedicated his life to serving the people of Jefferson County and did so with great honor. I will miss his larger than life personality. I’m sending my prayers to his family during this difficult time."
Smith has represented Missouri’s 8th District since 2013 after succeeding Jo Ann Emerson and previously served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem at age 42, Smith holds degrees from the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD).
