Rep. Jason Smith, a U.S. Congressman representing Missouri’s 8th district since 2013, recently addressed a range of topics on his Twitter account, including condolences for a tragedy in Minneapolis and commentary on national economic policy.

On August 27, 2025, Smith expressed sympathy following an incident at a Minneapolis school. He wrote, "Unconscionable. I’m terribly saddened to hear of the loss of innocent lives at the Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis. The families of those who lost a child today, the children that are fighting for their lives, and all families affected are in my prayers."

The following day, Smith criticized Democratic leaders over inflation rates and referenced former President Trump’s economic record. On August 28, he posted: "After 4 years of runaway inflation caused by their failed economic policies, Democrats are now pretending to care about high prices. While they blame President Trump, the facts don’t lie. Inflation under President Trump is returning to what it was during his first term -- doing https://t.co/tqHOkMI53m"

Continuing his focus on economic issues on August 29, Smith highlighted tax policy as beneficial for workers and manufacturers: "Pro-growth tax cuts are pro-worker: new factories, facilities and equipment purchases and gains in productivity create jobs and boost paychecks. American manufacturers and businesses are responding to the permanence of the pro-growth tax policy in The One, Big, Beautiful Bill"

Smith has represented Missouri’s 8th District since replacing Jo Ann Emerson in Congress in 2013 after previously serving in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem at age 42, Smith holds degrees from the University of Missouri (BS) and Oklahoma City University (JD).
