Rep. Jason Smith, who represents Missouri’s 8th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on September 5, 2025, to address a range of policy issues including crime, tax cuts, and hospital tax exemptions.
In a post made at 13:27 UTC on September 5, Smith criticized Democratic lawmakers by stating: "While President Trump is cleaning up our streets, Democrats continue to show how out of touch they are with the American people by siding with criminals."
Later that day at 15:23 UTC, Smith promoted his appearance on Newsmax where he discussed recent tax legislation: "ICYMI: Yesterday, I joined @NEWSMAX to discuss the largest tax cut to the middle class and working families. Watch below. https://t.co/TtjSykwnlz"
At 19:00 UTC on the same day, Smith questioned federal support for certain hospital policies through the tax code. He wrote: "Congress gives generous tax exempt status to hospitals and instead of using the money they saved on charity care or community benefit, these hospitals decided to push transgender surgeries on children and advance DEI policies. Why is our tax code supporting this?"
Smith has represented Missouri’s 8th congressional district since replacing Jo Ann Emerson in 2013. Before joining Congress, he served in the Missouri House of Representatives from 2005 to 2013. Born in St Louis in 1980 and currently residing in Salem, Smith holds a BS from the University of Missouri (2001) and a JD from Oklahoma City University (2004).
